Their son Sean Hepburn Ferrer was born in July 1960; the marriage was divorced in 1968. 1954 heiratete Mel Ferrer seine Schauspielkollegin Audrey Hepburn, mit der er mehrfach vor der Kamera stand (u.a. in der Tolstoi-Verfilmung „Krieg und Frieden“) und deren Filme er auch als Regisseur („Tropical Embers“) und Produzent betreute. Im Juli 1960 wurde der gemeinsame Sohn Sean Hepburn Ferrer geboren; die Ehe wurde 1968 geschieden.
