This graphite on paper drawing, a study for an unrealized painting, was created during Gilot's brief association with a group of artists, including Nicolas de Stael, Sonia Delaunay and Brancusi, who had formed a new movement in Paris called "Realities Nouvelles" (New Realities) dedicated to the idea of "pure painting" without reference to external reality. The year 1945 was Gilot's first period of abstraction, contributing to her visibility and trajectory as an artist in post-war Paris.

Signed and dated to lower right '1945 F. Gilot'. This work is registered in the F. Gilot Archives as number G.495.

This work will ship from Rago in Lambertville, New Jersey.

Work is in good overall condition and hinged to backing board. Pinpoints of discoloration throughout backing board, however, drawing appears unaffected. Work presents well. Unframed.
