Bellissima legatura coeva alle Armi in piena pelle, ai piatti cornice di triplo filetto in oro e al centro lo stemma di Hélie du Fresnoy, fregi in oro al dorso. Antiporta con ritratto di Cartesio inciso in rame. Pagine [18], 191, 164, 84. Ogni parte con proprio Frontespizio. Iniziali e fregi xilografici. Piccoli restauri ai Frontespizi, per il resto bell’esemplare. Rara prima edizione di Blaeu. Esemplare in magnifica legatura francese alle armi. L’opera è composta da tre parti: la prima riguarda specificamente la dimostrazione dell’esistenza di Dio e della distinzione tra anima umana e corpo; la seconda e la terza contengono le risposte di Cartesio alle obiezioni fatte da diversi eruditi, fra i quali Gaterus, Hobbes, Arnauld, Mersenne, Gassendi, in merito alle sue tesi e recano i titoli “Appendix, continens Objectiones quintas & septimas in Renati Descartes. Meditationes De Prima Philosophia…” e “Epistola Renati Descartes ad celeberrimum virum D. Gisbertum Voetium”. Esemplare di prestigiosa provenienza, appartenuto alla biblioteca dell'alto funzionario francese Hélie (o Elie) du Fresnoy (1614-1698). Guigard: “Les livres de cet amateur sont remarquables par la beauté et la richesse de l'habillement. Ils sont très-recherchés des bibliophiles et se vendent fort cher.”Guiber 13. Three parts in one volume in 4to, 210x160 mm. Very nice contemporary armorial binding in full leather, on covers a frame with triple gilt rules with Hélie du Fresnoy’s coat of arms, gilt ornaments on back. Engraved frontispiece with Descartes’ portrait. Pp. [18], 191, 164, 84. Each part with own titlepage. Woodcut initials and ornaments. Little restorations on titlepages, good copy.
Rare first edition of Blaeu. Specimen in magnificent armorial French binding. The work is made up of three parts: the first concerns the demonstration of the existence of God and of the distinction between the human soul and the body; the second and third contain Descartes' answers to the objections made by various scholars, including Gaterus, Hobbes, Arnauld, Mersenne, Gassendi, regarding his of him and bear the titles "Appendix, continens Objectiones quintas & septimas in Renati Descartes. Meditationes De Prima Philosophia…” and “Epistola Renati Descartes ad celeberrimum virum D. Gisbertum Voetium”. Specimen of prestigious provenance, which belonged to the library of the French high official Hélie (or Elie) du Fresnoy (1614-1698).
