East Asia, China, Han Dynasty, ca. 206 BCE to 220 CE. A fine set of two hand-built pottery animals presented in striding poses, a deer and a boar, each bearing hues of pink, white, and yellow atop a peach-colored buffware ground. The deer features a slender body with a perky tail, narrow limbs, and a raised head surmounted with a pair of conical antlers. The larger boar bears a stocky body with an upturned tail, 1 foreleg bent at a downward angle, a crested mane atop its neck, and a puffy face that tapers to form the thick snout. Size (boar): 4.12" L x 1.2" W (10.5 cm x 3 cm); (deer): 3.78" L x 0.89" W (9.6 cm x 2.3 cm)

Both pieces are repaired from multiple pieces, with resurfacing and overpainting along break lines. Minor nicks and abrasions to bodies, limbs, and heads, with fading and chipping to areas of original pigment, and light encrustations. Good preservation to overall zoomorphic forms.
