**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, Southern Coast of Peru, Early Nazca, Phase 4, ca. 1st to 5th century CE. A striking kero boasting impressively painted labyrinthian body of the anthropomorphic mythical being in brilliant shades of maroon, burnt orange, blue-gray, peach, beige, and black. The vessel itself sits upon a curved base as its sturdy walls rise tall to a gently corseted neck and an annular rim. The convoluted creature stretches horizontally along the exterior, displaying typical Nazca Phase 4 characteristics with a mouth mask, a forehead adornment, an outlined thumb holding a club, an extended body, a feline head terminator, a breech cloth, a spiked signifier, and a trophy head-lined back. Size: 4" Diameter x 6.9" H (10.2 cm x 17.5 cm)
Provenance: ex-Nancy and Dr. E.F. Simpson collection, Los Angeles, California, USA, acquired from 1970 to 2000

Condition
Professionally repaired with restoration to rim and over break lines. Repainting in some areas. Miniscule nick to rim and some light abrasions throughout, as shown. Otherwise, excellent with great pigments and impressive detail.
