A FINE PIECE OF WOVEN SILK PANEL HUNG IN WESTMINSTER ABBEY FOR THE CORONATION OF HER MAJESTY QUEEN ELIZABETH II 2ND JUNE 1953 The panel woven in the Queensway pattern in blue with gold lurex thread, with gold woven crown above rose, thistle, leek and shamrock emblem within oak leaf wreath on pale-blue ground the textile approximately 80.5cm x 57.5cm, framed and glazed 88 by 65cm overallProvenance: Acquired by the grandfather of the current vendor. The material for this panel was woven in December 1952 by Warner & Sons Ltd., Braintree and was designed by Robert Godden, the Rector of The Royal College of Art. It was the first heraldic emblem of the Sovereign to show both the Kingdoms of England, Scotland and Ireland as well as the Principality of Wales. After the Coronation, the silk hangings were gifted or sold off to raise money for charity. The reverse of the frame with handwritten label 'portion of the Damask Frontal used in Westminster Abbey on the occasion of the coronation of Her M. Elizabeth II 2nd June 1953'.
