Description
Denver Lonhuda
rare experimental earthenware scenic vase with heavy slip decoration of cowboys watering horses and Indians lurking on the other side of a hill
Denver, Colorado, circa 1910
matte glazed ceramic
impressed factory marks
5 5/8"dia x 9 3/8"h
Provenance:
Craftsman Auctions, Lambertville, New Jersey, 11 May 2007, Lot 1016
Catalog Note:
This vase appears to have started off as a typical brown glaze Lonhuda form (yellow tinted high glaze) on which a matte finish scene has been painted and fired. The effort looks more like a Weller Hudson scenic with heavy slip brushed on in a variety of colors. It certainly is an experiment at Denver Lonhuda and most definitely a successful one.
