Item Details
Description
Lenore Asbury (1866-1933) for Rookwood Pottery
rare porcelain Yellow Glaze vase with woodbine decoration and repeating bands at rim and foot, shape number 838A
Cincinnati, Ohio, 1929
high glazed ceramic
impressed factory marks, incised artist's initials and glaze designation, original factory paper label
6 3/4"dia x 15 3/8"h

Catalog Note:
In 1928 and 1929, Asbury decorated a small number of Yellow Glaze vases, which are often referred to as Late Standard Glaze. The effect is nearly identical to Standard Glaze from 25 years earlier with the exception of the intricate bands on the rim and foot, common to the better examples. The backgrounds are airbrushed and use of a yellow tinted high glaze is the essence of Standard Glaze. The price listed on the original Rookwood paper label is $50, which was quite a sum in 1929.
Condition
Minor glaze pimple on side. Minor grinding chips on base. Neat drill hole through base removing part of the shape number. No chips, cracks or repairs.
