Description
Rare 18K Yellow Gold Key-Wind Pocket Watch ca. 1830s - 40s by James Fenno, Boston. James Fenno was a silversmith, jeweler and watchmaker in Boston between 1820-1835. He continued his business from 1835-1845 in Lowell, Mass but likely kept Boston in his branded name. Case back opens to reveal pocket watch has a key-wind movement and engraved "James Fenno, Boston" in block letters, then in thin cursive font, "F. Cands" (owner of watch?) and below towards bottom "Detached Lever, 13 Jewels N 7988". Inside case back is hallmarked 18K. Face of watch has tarnished as 18K can do given the amount of years. Pocket watch uses two key but are not included. The watch therefore is untested. But a jiggle sees some movement in second hand sweep. 44mm face and total gross weight is 66.41 grams. This was a beautiful gentleman's watch at the time.
