Description
An antique African cast bronze male torso statue, possibly depicting the Benin king (Oba). The details of the clothes, the stylized crown, the attributes in the hands are well worked out. A snake is depicted around the belt. The body is covered with a relief prominent mesh. The Oba of Benin is the traditional ruler and the custodian of the culture of the Edo people and all Edoid people. The ancient Benin homeland has been and continues to be mostly populated by the Edo.
