Exceptionally rare pair of early G.A.A. medals,
G.A.A: Athletics - 1885 and 1886; Gaelic Athletic Association Championship Medals, won by J. Hennessy, first for the 3 Mile Walk, 1886. To fine attractive circular silver medals, the obverse finely engraved with Irish motifs of harp, round tower, Celtic cross and crossed hurley and hammer, and signed with initials
W.T.P., the reverse decorated with shamrock engraved on each leaf with names Parnell, Dr. Croke, and Davitt, and inscribed with details of race and participant. Each in fine condition. Excessively rare.
The medals are of the utmost rarity, having been issued by the G.A.A. for its early athletic meetings. These were issued 1st and 2nd years after the organization was founded
