Description
The Hidalgo - Dancers poster is a wonderful demonstration of the intersection of advertising and Spanish culture. The image features two flamenco dancers in mid-routine. The woman is dressed in the traje de flamenca, the traditional flamenco outfit. She reaches out to her partner with castanets in hand; her partner, mirroring her movement, holds outward a bottle of the Hidalgo L'Anis des Gourmets liqueur. Flamenco is a folk performance of song, dance and music native to southern Spain. This poster was created just before the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War when Andalusian culture was in vogue. The text of the poster reads "L'Anis des Gourmets" which translates from French to "The Anise of Gourmets." Anise refers to the aniseed which is a flowering plant that is often used for the flavoring of liqueurs. Unfortunately, there is little information on the artist of this poster. This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed, and in excellent condition. We guarantee the authenticity of all our posters.
