Description
Southeast Asia, Thailand, Sawankhalok (Sawankhalok) culture, Sukhothai Period, ca. 15th century CE. A wonderful ensemble of 6 pottery vessels, all enveloped in heavy marine encrustations of salt, sand, barnacle, and shell deposits from centuries spent on the ocean floor. Five of the vessels are bowls, each sitting upon a ring-form base with outward-spanning walls that lead to an annular rim - 3 of which are flared. Though the surface of the pottery is difficult to see, it appears that 3 of these bowls showcase a rich celadon-hued glaze. Alternatively, the remaining vessel is in the form of a squat jar with a planar base, a wide hip, a sloped shoulder, and a narrow, flared rim. Size of largest: 6.3" Diameter x 2.5" H (16 cm x 6.4 cm)
