Description
Canadian. 1910s. Painted steel with cast components. The term "Wigwag" referred to the pendulum-like motion that would signal the approach of the train. Porcelain "Stop" sign exhibits minor surface losses and accompanying oxidation. The hardware has been painted recently. "Look, Listen" sign is repainted. Untested for mechanical functionality. Stamped, "U.S. & S. Co., Made in U.S.A. Patented Feb 23, 1917" and "The Union Switch & Signal Co., Swissville, PA". From the Joe Byway Collection. 18' (h). PLEASE NOTE: this lot is located in Thamesford, Ontario and will require special equipment to be disassembled and transported at the buyer's expense.
