Description
Ceramic vase with a greyish, cracked, pale glossy and unctuous celadon glaze typical of Song Dynasty Guanyao pottery. The shape is originally derived from the ancient bronze "Hu" prototypes which are characterized by a straight mouth, wide belly and two ring handles, through which a cord was passed for carrying. In this form the ears are tubular (arrow-handled) and set on the shoulders between molded horizontal bands. The profile is pear-shaped and rises from a base with a circular profile.
The texture, glaze color, style and production of Dynasty porcelain to Song far exceeded those of the previous generation. Guanyao means official kiln that from the Tang dynasty to the Yuan dynasty, most produced tribute vessels. In Porcelain from the Song dynasty, the official kiln is a special name, which refers to the celadon fired for the court.
The piece is in perfect condition with no breaks.
