Dorothy Strauser, wife of the late artist Sterling Strauser, was born in 1908. Dorothy and Sterling married in 1928 and were important collectors and supporters of American folk art. Strauser, herself, worked mainly in the mediums of watercolor and her own unique "cloth" paintings in which she used hand-dyed cloth that was "hooked" into a burlap backing. She studied with George J. Keller at the Bloomsburg State Teachers College, and has exhibited at the Everhart Museum, the Burliuk Museum, the William Penn Museum, Zabriskie Gallery, the Bertha Schaeffer Gallery, and the Frank Lee Gallery. The Rozenak's first book, The Encyclopedia of 20th Century American Folk Art and Artists was dedicated to Dorothy and Sterling Strauser.
