A Prattware 'Bacchus and Pan' jug, circa 1790
Bacchus seated on a barrel covered with fruit, wearing a blue lion skin robe and grasping a cornucopia which rises to form the spout of the jug, the spout modelled as the head of a dolphin and the handle as a monkey, a figure of Pan to the reverse with an owl by his side, on a circular base, 30.3cm high

This jug is based upon a Wood Family model, see Sir Harold Mackintosh, Early English Figure Pottery (1938), p.73 and p.92 where the modelling is attributed to Voyez.

Condition
A tiny piece has been broken from the lower lip of the dolphin and restuck into position. The piece is about 1.6cm wide and 0.4cm deep maximum. Associated with this, a tiny piece of the lip is missing but this is very hard to see. There is a tiny shallow chip to the upper edge of the base between the feet of Bacchus which is about 0.4cm wide and two even smaller chips to the base. There is some typical fine crazing. Otherwise in good condition.
