Two Battersea enamel crucifixes, circa 1753-56
With gilt metal mounts and suspension loops, one printed in red with Christ on the cross and sparingly picked out in colours, 6.5cm high including mount, the other printed in black with a different version of the same subject, 7.1cm high including mount (2)

Another version of Christ on the cross is illustrated by Egan Mew, Battersea Enamels (1926), fig.40.

The example printed in red has a horizontal crack in the enamel at the top of Christ's legs but is otherwise in good condition. The one printed in black has more numerous cracks, mostly horizontal. These include a crack running just above Christ's feet associated with an area of loss to the enamel which is about 0.8cm wide with a maximum height of 0.2cm. There is another similar crack across his chest and right arm, also with an area of associated loss which is about 0.5cm wide with a maximum height of 0.2cm. Otherwise, there are five of six fine horizontal cracks.
