Of delightfully small size, the cover well-fitting, naturalistically modelled as a young hare at lodge, its front legs extended and its head turned slightly to one side, left in the white save for the face and ears which are picked out in salmon-pink and black, 8.2cm long (2)
Footnotes:
Provenance
Simon Spero exhibition, 1997, no.12
Bunny and Paul Davies Collection

Illustrated by Maurice Hillis, Liverpool Porcelain (2011), p.211, pl.5.171. Probably based on a slightly larger Chelsea model, see the Chelsea versions sold by Bonhams on 3 November 2016, lot 199 and 17 May 2017, lot 132. Similar small tureens appear to have been included in the 1755 sale of Chelsea porcelain conducted by Mr Ford at his Great Room in Haymarket, London. Lot 18 on the second day of the sale comprised 'Two small fine cabbage-leaves, and 4 rabbits, for desart'. Rabbit tureens as 'big as life' were also included.
