1590 Map of Jerusalem from "Civitates Orbis Terrarum" by Hogen & Bran

1p, measuring 21" x 16", [Cologne, Germany], undated [Ca. 1590]. A beautiful color copper etching map of Jerusalem, printed in Latin, taken from "Civitates Orbis Terrarum" by Franz Hogen and Georg Bran. Titled "Jerusalem, the Holy City, by far the most famous city of Juda and the East in her present size and greatness", with a caption from Ezekiel 5: "This is Jerusalem, which I have set in the center of the nations, with countries all around her." Depicting the walled city of Jerusalem, surrounded by small country towns and landscapes, with five well-dressed men in the foreground. The map has been matted to the overall size of 23.75" x 20.75". With flattened folds, light soiling, toning and soiling. Very bright colors, very fine.
