Letter From the Brigg George in 1757
BRIGANTINE GEORGE. Letter Signed, "Benj. Wanton", as Commander of the Brigg George, 1p, 7" x 9", August 23, 1757. Integral address leaf with remnants of red wax seal, torn upon opening; expected mailing folds; light toning; else near fine, commensurate with age.
Commander Benjamin Wanton writes from onboard the Brigg George, in full, "Being in so much hurry we have no time to write any particulars, as there is now four sail in sight which we are making ready to chase, but you have a few more particulars by the ship, tho we had neither time to revise or add, so hope you'll excuse the shortness of Gentlemen."
The Brigg George was a British Privateer ship whose home port was Newport, Rhode Island. Operated by private owners, it was acquired in 1757 and was last mentioned in 1758.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
