Large twelvemo, [xii], 462pp. A Dutch edition of Turner's "Embassy Trip to Tibet and Boutan, Very Remarkable Details of These Countries, Until 1793" Part I. With twelve plates of maps, landscapes, etc. Quarter-bound with a title label at the spine. The book has worn and soiled covers with rubbing, chipping, and loss to the spine edges and corners. Cracked spine and bumped corners. Light toning, foxing, and soiling to the internal pages. Creasing to folded plates. There are also pencil notations on the front pastedown.
Samuel Turner (1759-1802) was an army officer in the East India Company. His visit to Bhutan and Tibet in 1783 was primarily motivated by both political and commercial interests, but his published narrative also contains amusing anecdotes about his travels.
