Description
Watercolor on paper, titled "Roaring Fork" by Kenneth Evett, dated 1982. The Roaring Fork River is near Aspen, Colorado. Signed lower right and titled and dated lower left, size: 15 3/4 x 11 3/4 in. sight, 23 1/4 x 19 1/2 in. framed, condition excellent and nicely framed.

Kenneth Evett was born in Loveland, CO, 1913. He was an Educator and Painter. He studied at the Kirkland School of Art, Denver and received an MFA in painting from Colorado College in 1939, From 1937 to 1940, he also took classes at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center under Boardman Robinson, George Biddle, Henry Varnum Poor, and Peppino Mangravite. He won commissions from the Works Progress Administration's federal section of fine arts to paint murals in several post offices in Colorado, Kansas and Nebraska in period 1938- 1941. He taught at Cornell University from 1948-1979, where he eventually became a professor emeritus. Evett's art work has been widely exhibited. He was exhibited at the Denver Art Museum in 1936. In the late 1940's and early 1950's, his work was exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, and the Art Institute of Chicago. In 1954, he won a national competition to paint three murals in the Nebraska Capitol rotunda. His work was exhibited at the Norfolk Museum in the 1960s, and in 1968, his work won awards at the Rochester Museum and the Munson-Williams-Proctor Institute. Evett had ten solo shows at the Kraushaar Gallery in New York City from 1948 to 1981. In the early 1980s, his work was exhibited at the National Museum of American Art (Smithsonian). In 1994 he was elected to the National Academy of Design. He died in Ithaca, NY in 2005.
