A CARVED SOAPSTONE FIGURE OF A LADY, 1900s
China, late Qing dynasty (1644-1912) - Republic period (1912-1949). The figure is shown standing and holding a large teapot in both her hands. She wears a shawl over her shoulders, an elaborated ruyi-head and petal collar and a long flowing robe that falls to cover her feet. Her hair is worn in an elaborate topknot. The stone is of warm cream color with iron red inclusions.
Condition: With some wear and chips to exposed areas, some losses, restorations to the topknot, neck, and shawl. The stone with natural fissures and remains of pigments.
