Description
A 'LINGZHI AND BATS' PORCELAIN CUP, QING DYNASTY
China, 1644-1912. Painted in polychrome enamels of green, aubergine, yellow and iron-red, depicting a band of lingzhi and bats. The recessed base with an apocryphal six-character Kangxi reign mark within a double circle.
Provenance: Holzapfel collection, Geneva, Switzerland. This lot was acquired by second generation members of the Holzapfel family after 1990 and has remained in the family ever since.
Condition: Superb condition with only minor traces of wear.

The lingzhi and bat motif is commonly found in Chinese art. The lingzhi is a rebus for 'intelligence' and 'to arrive', the bat stands for 'blessings', together they represent a symbol for longevity.
