Collection of Madeline Fisher and G.W. Samaha. Ex: Spooner Family, Plymouth, Massachusetts
The Spooners were a slave owning family, and some of the portraits were believed to be of their slaves. In a letter to his brother in 1776, William's son, Ebenezer (d.1718) mentions a slave, Cuff, he wants to sell for 150 pounds. A letter in 1777 from a Spooner slave, Cato, tells how he is in camp with the army eight miles from Albany during the Revolutionary War.
