A Rare Midnight Blue Ground Silk Embroidered Crane Winter Surcoat, Changpao, and Accessories. Constructed front-opening lady's surcoat, using midnight blue color heavyweight silk satin fabric, lined in light blue Chinese silk, trimmed with fur all around the front and to the bottom hem, finely embroidered on the front and back panels with eight large symmetrically arranged, roundels or official badges three in the front, three on the back and one on each shoulder and three smaller roundels above the border on each sleeve. Each roundel is meticulously embroidered and incorporated with multicolored silk threads, using Peking knot, forbidden stitch, satin stitch, and split stitch techniques, centered with the back facing crane with wines widely open carrying lingzhi in its mouth, amongst flying butterflies, leafy plum blossom stems and blooming chrysanthemum. All above the turbulent wave border incorporating lingzhi-form vapor and the auspicious emblems in the crashing waves rising from a deep Lishui stripe, the wave borders repeated at the cuffs with gilded incised floral motif buttons and accompanied by a pair of lady's purple silk high heels floral decorated shoes and a black tube shape hand warmer covered with fur or hair.
