Description
C.S. Hammond & Company (American, 1900-2010) 18" terrestrial globe, housed in a brass meridian ring with brass hour circles at North and South Poles, with a horizon band listing the months of the year along with the corresponding zodiac signs, mounted onto a mahogany Empire style base. One side with a C. S. Hammond & Company circular label and a copyright notice below for W. & A. K. Johnston Ltd. Approx. 46" H x 23" dia. (includes horizon band). Circa 1920. Note: This globe shows the name of St. Petersburg, Russia as Petrograd. The city held this name from September 1, 1914, until January 26, 1924, when it was subsequently renamed Leningrad.
Condition
Globe with some toning resulting in overall darkening. Scattered light spots and use wear with minor losses. Globe rotates smoothy. Base in overall good condition.
