A Charles II and Victorian sterling silver tankard, London 1683 probably by Alexander Roode, and London 1865 by Robert Harper

Of cylindrical form upon a later applied Victorian skirt base. The original hinged lid later domed and embossed with central fluting and lunette edge, raised by a sand cast screw thumbpiece, the hinge area with punched dot motifs. The body with later embossed decoration of a vacant inset cartouche embossed with foliage, below a rope twist band and a fluted section below, heightened with stamp work motifs. The Victorian skirting foot with chased splayed forms alternating with roundels. Scratched with rudimentary initials CE in monogram underneath. Gilt interior. Fully marked to the side, makers mark partially obscured, the lid with infilled original marks, the handle no longer with makers’ mark. Part-marks to Victorian skirt base.
