FONG CHOW
Fong Chow（1923－2012），為紐約重要華人收藏家、陶藝家、攝影師，其祖父是周壽臣爵士，為20世紀初香港政商界名人，1918年創立東亞銀行。Fong Chow 學貫中國藝術品及書畫，於紐約大都會藝術博物館擔任研究員長達25年，曾任紐約大都會藝術博物館館長，收藏多捐贈予紐約大都會藝術博物館。其收藏亦曾多次上拍於蘇富比、佳士得等國際知名拍場，並締造不俗佳績。
瓶為玉壺春式，撇口，口部下收成細長頸，垂腹，圈足，曲線優美，素靜典雅。滿施青釉，釉質瑩潤，釉色天青，聚釉處泛綠，釉層滋潤柔和，口沿釉薄處呈灰青色，清淡含蓄。下腹局部橄欖綠色，或為入窯燒製時產生陰陽面、或為土沁黃化，趣味天成。釉面滿布蟬翼紋般的細小開片，足露胎，胎色深灰，為俗稱「香灰胎」。
宋．周輝在《清波雜志》記載：「汝窯宮中禁燒，內有瑪瑙末為釉，唯供御揀退，方許出賣，近尤難得。」如1987年河南省寶豐縣清涼寺窯址出土，中國河南省文物考古研究所庋藏北宋〈汝窯小口細頸瓶〉及1989年河南省寶豐縣大營鎮蠻子營村窖藏，寶豐縣文物管理局庋藏北宋〈汝窯天青釉深腹碗〉，應是「供御撿退」後被寺院窖藏。兩者皆施天青色釉，下部局部呈橄欖綠色，釉面開細片紋及足底無釉，採用墊燒而成之特徵，與本品極為相似。又本品底有一道窯裂痕跡，與拍賣於香港佳士得2021年12月3日，編號2968，南宋〈龍泉仿官窯瓶〉，其底部窯裂痕跡相似，可資比對參考。
玉壺春瓶基本造形是由左右兩個對稱的「S」形構成，頸較細，頸部中央微微收束，向下逐漸加寬過渡為杏圓狀下垂腹，曲線變化圓緩，線條優美柔和。因宋代詩人讚「玉壺先春」而得名。其形由漢青銅器演變而來，當時為裝酒的實用器具，定型於北宋時期，漸成觀賞性陳設瓷，獲得世人百般寵愛，歷千年不衰。複刻原型可參閱欽定四庫全書－西清古鑑、卷十八．漢〈素瓶四〉。另大英博物館庋藏北宋〈汝窯天青釉玉壺春瓶〉，與本件青釉玉壺春瓶造形、釉色皆極為相近，以寧靜素穆的釉色營造清幽淡遠的高妙意境，視之如碧峰翠色，有似玉非玉之美，別具風姿。
宋代瓷器以其精美典雅的器型與純淨釉色而為世所知，其於平淡中靜靜流淌出含蓄與溫潤，風靡朝堂與民間。據記載，宋徽宗尤喜愛天青色釉瓷器，更寫詩誇讚「雨過天青雲破處，這般顏色做將來。」迎合統治階層審美情趣的素雅清逸色彩，成為當時上流社會的時尚，青瓷發展達到頂峰。細觀本品胎質細膩，釉色青綠淡雅，開片唯美，釉面光澤柔和、晶瑩細潤，達到類玉效果，風格含蓄秀美，有著「千峰碧波翠色來」之美妙，為件雋永佳品。
