412 十七世紀銅鎏金韋馱立像
H45cm
韋馱銅鑄，通體鎏金，呈少年武將貌，立姿，頭戴金盔，耳側繒帶飛揚，面頰圓腴，低眉垂目，鼻樑挺直，雙唇緊閉，相容堅毅而謙恭。左手當胸掐指，右手掌心向上，應平托一寶杵（已佚），聚氣凝神，狀極虔誠睿智。身著鎖子金甲胄，兩肩、手腕及足腕配獸面護套，胸紮帶縛懷甲，外露鎖子以人字形斜凸雕表現，如同軟甲般附著於身體，隱約展現肌肉起伏之力度，亦可觸摸到如金屬般質感。獸首護腹咬腰繫劄帶，足蹬雲頭高靴，雙腿向外呈八字形，寬與肩齊，姿態雄健有力，形象威武彪悍，給人肅穆優雅的視覺感受。同類作品可參考澳大利亞維多利亞國家美術館庋藏十八世紀〈青銅韋馱立像〉，然本造像技法精湛，鎧甲和其上裝飾皆甚為生動到位，精緻及寫實程度具極強立體效果，略勝一籌。
韋馱為尊天護法菩薩，又名韋馱天，本是婆羅門的天神，南方增長天王的八大神將之一，生而聰慧，早離塵欲，修清淨梵行，故現童真相。在佛陀即將入滅時，受其囑咐鎮護東勝神州、西牛賀州、南贍部州等三洲，護持正法，久住世間，故有「三洲感應」之稱，為佛教中特殊護法神。山西省平遙縣雙林寺庋藏明〈韋馱〉，其正堂供奉千手觀音，兩側則供奉韋馱菩薩、韋力菩薩，兩大天王表示以大威神力護擁佛法。綜觀本尊像鎏金渾厚，身軀厚實壯碩，造像慈悲與智慧兼具，剛毅與誠摯並存，氣勢非凡，儼然一派智仁勇的守護神形象，令人望之而生敬，為充分體現十七世紀漢傳佛教造像典型風格之佳作。
