匜體橢長呈瓢形，深腹，前有管式流，後有龍形鋬，圜底下承四扁足。鋬龍首下探，銜於匜尾，頭頂錐形雙角直立，大眼圓凸，神采奕奕。雙耳立於龍首兩側，長身彎曲作弓形為匜鋬，背有凸棱，尾捲曲，表面飾幾何紋理，線條清晰深邃，與器型互相輝映。匜腹上飾有獸體捲曲紋一周，下腹飾橫條紋，構圖明快簡潔。匜是中國先秦時代禮器之一，形狀似瓢，用於沃盥之禮，為古代盥洗時舀水用之器具。
青銅禮器是禮樂制度的集中體現，也是古典美學的凝聚。宋代文人熱衷於透過古器物考證古代典章制度，同時以慕古增添文房清趣。宮廷據內府所藏商周青銅禮樂器大量仿製，以為郊廟之用。仿古之風延續至元明清時代，明代仿造規模甚大，明宣宗更見郊壇宗廟及內廷所陳設鼎彝均非古制，遂生復古之心，敕諭工部仿照宋人《考古圖》、《博古圖》諸書所記商周青銅器器型，鑄造仿古銅器，數量達三千三百餘件，除部分歸宮廷留用外，還奉敕分與諸王府，流傳至各地。河南省信陽地區文物管理委員會庋藏春秋早期〈番伯享匜〉，其造形、紋飾與本品甚為相似，為春秋時期典型青銅匜形制，可資參考。
本對青銅匜器型雄渾古樸，流口曲線優美，龍形鋬與口沿下方獸體紋飾形成對比，做工細緻，是頗具巧思與意象的青銅水器。整體極具觀賞性，且成對保存甚為難得，為明代仿古青銅器之佳作。
