Description: Rare, collectible CDV of Brigadier General Charles Frederick Henningsen, a mercenary who fought for the Confederacy in the U.S Civil War. This carte de visite dates to 1860 and is sepia toned. On the back is written in pencil, â€œGen Henningsen not known.”Originally born in England, Henningsen fought in wars in Spain, Russia, Hungary, and Nicaragua and reached high rank in the Confederacy. He wrote of his experiences throughout his life and was considered a munitions expert, superintending the development of the first MiniÃ© rifles in the United States. In every war he fought in, he was on the losing side.
