Description
A PAIR OF GEORGE III SILVER SHAPED CIRCULAR SALVERSPHILIP RUNDELL, LONDON 1819With a chased shell and foliate border, engraved with rocaille, a later armorial and motto 'Touts jours prest', on four shell and grape vine feet24cm (9 1/2in) diameter1536g (49.4 oz)This is a full armorial achievement for Sir Richard SUTTON (1798-1855) 2nd Baronet of Norwood Park, Nottinghamshire, who was the son of John SUTTON (1770-1801) by Sophia Frances CHAPLIN. In 1819 he married Mary Elizabeth BURTON (1797-1842) the elder daughter of Benjamin BURTON of Burton Hall, co. Carlow Ireland and we would expect that the salvers, assayed in 1819, were created before his marriage as the SUTTON arms do not impale the arms of BURTON. When aged four years he succeeded his grandfather Sir Richard SUTTON (1733-1802), who in 1772 had been created 1st Baronet of Norwood Park. The family were descended from the younger brother of Robert SUTTON (1594-1668), 1st Baron Lexinton of Aram. This title became extinct in 1723 on the death of Robert SUTTON (1662-1723) the 2nd Baron.
