Description
Attributed to J. Harris & Co., Boston, Massachusetts, appears in their illustrated catalogue from 1878, no. 13. Depicted with empty bow raised but arrow in opposing hand. At the time, the 30-inch model retailed for $40. Roughly 32" x 31 1/2" x 3 1/2". Does not include display stand. Replaced portions of lower batten, small dents, remnants of original gilding, arrow shaft and bow string painted silver. Provenance: Owned by Rufus Barney Stevens (1867-1954), of R.B. & C.G. Stevens, Main Street of Jonesport, Maine, purveyors of canned sardines and smoked herring; passed down through the family to Harry F. Stevens, who gave it to the present owner.
