8vo. 8vo. viii, 245, [1] + [2] ad pp. Illustrated with plates after I.W. Taber (included in pagination). Original blue pictorial cloth stamped in gilt, all edges gilt; pictorial dust jacket. Binding very bright and clean, with minor shelfwear at head and tail of spine. Jacket lightly thumbsoiled, closed tear at lower left of upper panel; chipping at head of spine; spine sunned; closed tear at upper right of lower panel, small closed tears to upper and lower center margins of lower panel. In custom slipcase.
FIRST EDITION IN A RARE UNSOPHISTICATED DUST JACKET. Captains Courageous is the only Kipling novel set in America, and was praised by Theodore Roosevelt for describing 'in the liveliest way just what a boy should be and do.' Richards A103; Stewart 163.
