FIRST EDITION. PRESENTATION COPY TO SULLY PRUDHOMME, THE FIRST NOBEL LAUREATE FOR LITERATURE, inscribed on the half-title: 'à Sully Prudhomme avec toute ma respecteuse et profonde admiration, avec ma particuliere tendresse. Edmond Rostand.' Rostand was elected to the French Academy in 1901, the same year Prudhomme became the first recipient of the Nobel Prize for Literature. At the time, Rostand was the youngest author to be elected to the Academy.
