Description:
Gelatin silver photograph. With Gabriel Moulin's circular 153 Kearny Street rubberstamp on the back. 52x101 cm (20½x39¾").
Dramatic nighttime view of San Francisco looking south, perhaps in the 1860s - we have not been able to identify the artist or printmaker of the original, but it was thankfully preserved in large format by master photographer Gabriel Moulin, who founded his studio following the San Francisco earthquake of 1906 after working for I.W. Taber and R.J. Waters.
Condition
Some silvering in the emulsion, 1" patch of adhesion damage at lower right, some other minor wear; very good.
