Description

SHENANDOAH VALLEY OF VIRGINIA CARVED TREEN BUTTER PRINT, probably maple, thick lollipop form with rectangular handle having a rounded end, front deeply carved with a shield-breast spread-wing eagle flanked by a flower to each side, "K.B." initials above head, and a six-point star below tail, reverse with a large six-point star within a chain-line border featuring "C. BAKER" below handle. Outstanding dry original surface. Shenandoah or Frederick Co., VA. Circa 1840. 8 1/2" L, 4 5/8" D.
Provenance: Recently discovered in Middletown, VA.

Condition

Very good as-found condition with no cracks, some minor losses round rims, expected usage wear.
