Item Details
Description
Auguste and Antonin Daum (French, 1853-1909 and 1864-1930 respectively). Art glass vessel, ca. 1900. Signature on underside. A gorgeous Daum Nancy glass vessel comprised of overlaid and etched art glass of beautiful amethyst, gold, and snow white hues. The vessel presents with overlaid golden acid-etched leaves emerging from meandering tendrils of the same hue against mottled, translucent purple and white glass. The vessel's compressed, tapering, rounded body resolves in a smooth rim and sits upon a flat base. Size: 5.25" W x 4.7" H (13.3 cm x 11.9 cm)
Daum Nancy glass was created by the brothers Auguste and Antonin Daum who took over their father's glass factory in Nancy, France during the 1870s. Until the 1890s, the Daum factory made watch crystals and utilitarian glassware; however, the brothers decided to create art glass from the 1890s through the early 20th century, and following World War I, Daum Nancy transitioned from Art Nouveau to Art Deco designs.
