Description
East Asia, China, Han Dynasty, ca. 206 BCE to 220 CE. A dainty leaded bronze oblong casket shaped oil lamp with a lid that opens upward via a hinge. When opened, the lid rests on top of the other top half, a pricket spike set in the center and a spout channel atop the hinge. The ends of the ovoid body and lid contain tabs with piercings for both suspension and securing the lid in place, and a pair of narrow curved feet support the vessel's base. Size: 6" L x 2.5" W x 2.25" H (15.2 cm x 6.4 cm x 5.7 cm)
Provenance: ex-Nancy and Dr. E.F. Simpson collection, Los Angeles, California, USA, acquired from 1970 to 2000

Condition
Hinge pin is absent, and lid is loose. Surface abrasions commensurate with age, otherwise in good condition. Heavy earthen encrustations on base and mineral deposits throughout with green patina.
