Walter A. Weber was born in 1906 in Chicago. After receiving a B.S. in biology and zoology from the University of Chicago, he studied at the Art Institute of Chicago. He became a scientific illustrator and expedition artist at the Field Museum of Natural History in 1922 and traveled the world in this capacity. In 1930 he studied under Allan Brooks in British Columbia.
Weber's drawing was chosen for the 1944-1945 Federal Duck Stamp, and by 1949 he was on staff at the National Geographic Society, which meant more time in the field researching and painting. Among other honors, Weber won the Conservation Service Award from the U.S. Department of the Interior in 1967 for his support of conservation.
