Description
Charles Beckendorf (1933-1996, TX), "Museum Complex", ed. 32/100, pencil on paper, signed, framed
Charles Beckendorf grew up in Mathis, Texas, where he was influenced by the surrounding countryside. After enlisting in the U.S. Air Force and serving during the Korean War Conflict, he moved to Austin and earned his Fine Arts Degree at the University of Texas. As an artist, Charles was interested in appealing to the general public. However, during the age of high dollar minimalism and pop art, most art pieces were not accessible to the general public. Hoping access to affordable prints would introduce the everyday person to art collecting, he created a series of pen and ink prints. They sold very well, and Charles released a second set of prints after moving with his family to the Texas Hill Country outside Fredericksburg in 1965. He would later open a gallery with his wife and would continue to sell high-quality prints until his passing in 1996.
sight: 11 x 15", frame: 19 x 23"
Provenance: estate of Deborah Deville, San Antonio, Texas
