AN EXTREMELY RARE TIBETAN MANDORLA
The Amitabha is shown seated in dhyanasana on a separately cast lotus plinth flanked by two separately cast Shadakshari Lokeshvara and Padmasambhava, the Amitabha hands resting in his lap, clad in a sheer sanghati draped over the shoulder and gathered in folds under the ankles, the face with downcast, almond-shaped eyes flanked by elongated earlobes, the hair in tight curls with the ushnisha capped by a knop. The deity on the right to Amitabha is Shadakshari Lokeshvara, a ubiquitous four-armed emanation of Avalokiteshvara, seated in dhyanasana on a double-lotus base with beaded rims, his primary hands in anjali mudra and his upper hands holding a mala and a lotus, his face in a serene expression surmounted by a foliate crown, the opposite side Padmasambhava, seated on a lotus blossom holding a vajra in his raised right hand and a skull cup in his left, a khatvanga resting in the crook of his arm(which losted from current example), dressed in heavy brocade robes, the face with steady gaze surmounted by the red cap, the supporting column cast with foliate patterns, flanked to either side with spiraling arms with further leaves and floral buds, strongly featured Nepal-Tibetan style, which blend of Nepalese and Tibetan stylistic preferences.
