Description
A POSSIBLY PHÁP LAM - HUẾ ENAMELS BOWL, COVER AND SAUCER POSSIBLY VIETNAM AND NGUYEN DYNASTY, 19TH CENTURY Polychrome enamels on copper. The bowl rests on a short ring foot and its body of round shape. The lid is shaped like a dome. The saucer, of circular shape, with a central recessed part. Finely painted on copper in famille rose enamels with reserved medallions with ladies and boys in a garden against a yellow ground enhanced with dark dots as well as lotus scrolls. H (all together): 9,3 cm Note: According to Vietnam Annal Records, it is during the 8th year of the reign of Emperor Minh Mạng(1820-1839), i.e. 1827, that the technic of enamel on metal, originating from Canton / Guangzhou, China, was introduced to Vietnam. At that time, a workshop was established under the responsibility of the official court painter Vũ Văn Mai.
