Description
Two Roman gilt-bronze crossbow fibulae
Circa 3rd-6th Century A.D.
Both with three cupola-shaped terminals, the larger with much gilding remaining, a hexagonal crossbar with a raised band of ornament above, the spine of the arched bow with an inlaid circle and line motif, the footplate with similarly inlaid central motif, flanked by three pairs of moulded palmiers; the smaller fibula with half moon moulded decoration on the footplate, the pin ramains, 9.5cm and 7.2cm long (2)
