A Roman bronze balsamarium
Circa 2nd Century A.D.
In the form of the bust of an African, with incised layered curls, the hinged lid at the crown of the head flanked by suspension loops which secure the bail handle, the eyes with inlaid bulbous glass pupils, a mantle draped over the proper left shoulder, 15.9cm including the handle, 12.8cm high excluding the handle
