Description
JOAQUIN ESQUER (Madrid, 1966).
"Pomona", 2020.
Wrought iron and painted.
Signed, dated and titled on the base.
Measurements: 40 x 33 x 22,5 cm.
In this piece the sculptor combines the strength of the material, which, presenting a twisted character, creates a set of angular forms, where the vertices and straight lines stand out. Thus creating an image that varies between the polygon and the polyhedron because the author achieves a volumetric game playing with the material and the space created by its torsion.
In his work the artist shows the tension that exists between the sculptor and the material. An example of this is his iron sculptures. In them he manages to bring a lightness and sweetness that is not usually associated with this material, however, by bringing ductility to the material, he provides a new vision of it. He shows a great respect for the materials, and promotes a language with the spectator that moves the observer, combining strength and rotundity with lightness and sensitivity. JoaquÃn Esquer trained at the Escuela de Artes y Oficios in Madrid, specialising in Volume Techniques. He continued his training at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in the same city, where he specialised in modelling, casting and restoration techniques. From the beginning of his artistic career he was attracted by sculpture and the possibilities of materials in a direct way. For this reason, he worked with different materials, participating in the experience of several renowned sculptors such as Manolo Valdés.
