Item Details
Description
This instrument was used to align the Saturn V and the Saturn 1B Launch Vehicle on the Launch Pad. It was located in Azimuth Alignment Building inside the Approach Ramp about 700 feet from the Mobile Launcher Pedestals. The building housed the Auto-collimator Theodolite which sensed, by a light source, the rotational output of the gyroscopic platform in the Launch Vehicle. This ensured the correct trajectory at launch. Only 3 of these were ever made and this is believed to be the only surviving example. Manufactured by Perkin-Elmer and weighing just over 100 pounds this is a large optical alignment tool and will require special shipping arrangements. This items has a length of 40" and a diameter of 11". When crated it's measurements will be 50" x 25" x 29" high and have a crated weight of 279 pounds.
