Sixth Plate Tintype of an Identified 2nd Virginia Cavalry Private
housed in a custom oval case with blue velvet exterior and silk interior, the underside of the lid pencil inscribed, "Joel D. McCormick / Company H 2 Va Cavalry / Fitz Lee's", the image trimmed to fit the shaped format, the sitter wearing a gray depot jacket with eight buttons visible.
Private McCormick enlisted in the Confederate army when the federals arrived in Alexandria, Virginia on May 24, 1861, serving his state until taking an oath of allegiance to the United States in Farmville, Virginia on April 26, 1865.
